About Us
Captec was founded by Kevin McClay on March 31, 1992.
Its mission is to provide capital equipment, supplies and technologies to the electronic manufacturer via representation of high quality, technically differentiable products.  Captec provides professional sales and service support for those products in Northern California.

Upon receiving a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 1977, Mr. McClay held two manufacturing engineering positions (Memorex & CMX/Orrox) in electronics manufacturing over a four-year period. In 1981, he joined Production Specialties (a Manufacturers Representative) as a Sales Engineer and fulfilled that role for two years.
Mr. McClay then moved into a management role with Intelledex, Inc. (a robot Manufacturer and Systems House) as District Manager for two years and then onto Media Test Specialties (MTS) as Director of Sales. At MTS he had worldwide responsibility for the sales and service of $9 million/yr of rigid disk testing equipment. In 1987, Kevin returned to Production Specialties with an MBA from Santa Clara University and began to help the company grow.
Between 1987 and 1992, Production Specialties grew from having five lines with $2 million in sales to eleven lines with over $4 million in sales. At that time, Kevin left Production Specialties and founded Captec.
Kevin has been an active officer of the local Silicon Valley SMTA Chapter for over 20 years.  He is currently SMTA Silicon Valley Chapter President.

In addition to Kevin, his wife Esther also has extensive experience in the electronics assembly industry. Upon receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of San Diego in 1980, Esther operated and owned HK Industries, a manufacturer of material handling equipment for electronic factory floors. HK's most popular product was the Kit Control Tub that was used to transport IC tubes from the stockroom to the auto insertion machine.
